Volume2 (formerly Works on Paper, Inc.) is the latest venture of curator and owner, Christine Nichols. In addition to her career specializing in artists' drawings, Christine has also worked as the director of Lightbox and as a special projects director at LACE.
The Volume2 curatorial studio is located on the site of Ms. Nichols' private residence in Venice Beach, California. Designed by noted architect Maya Lin, the home and gallery make optimal use of their environs. The spaces flow from one to the other through adjoining decks and garden spaces, allowing visitors to enjoy the atmosphere of the area as well as the structure and installations. Ms. Lin is well known for her environmentally conscious designs and structures. The Volume2 location is entirely green standard, featuring FSC-certified redwood, solar-powered radiant heat, recycled glass, bamboo flooring, and drought-resistant landscaping.
Notable projects by Maya Lin include
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall,
the Storm King Wavefield,
the Museum of Chinese in America, and private residences throughout the country.
